Why bundles beat single items on Etsy fees
Most of Etsy’s cut is percentage-based, and percentages don’t care how you group things. But two charges are fixed — $0.20 per listing renewal and $0.25 per transaction — and those are charged per order. Which means the same $48 of sales costs you different amounts depending entirely on whether it arrives as one order or three.
The same money, three ways
Start with a single $16 item sold on its own:
Sell three of those as three separate orders and you pay that three times — about $5.91 in fees on $48.00 of sales. Now the same amount arriving as one order for three units of that listing:
Better — one transaction fee instead of three. But still three listing renewals.
And finally, the same three items sold as a single bundle listing priced at $48:
One transaction fee and one listing renewal. The cheapest of the three.
| How it sold | Etsy fees | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| Three separate $16 orders | $5.91 | $42.09 |
| One order, three units of one listing | $5.41 | $42.59 |
| One $48 bundle listing | $5.01 | $42.99 |
$0.90 between the worst and best case. On one order that is trivial; across a few hundred orders a year it is real, and it costs nothing to capture.
Why the middle row isn’t as good as it looks
This catches people out. Selling three units of one listing in one order saves you two transaction fees, but not the listing renewals. Etsy states that if you list multiple quantities of the same item, the initial listing fee is $0.20 and the listing automatically renews at $0.20 after each of the items sells. Three sold means three renewals.
A genuine bundle — one listing, sold once, containing three things — renews once. That is the difference between the second and third rows.
The saving that dwarfs the fees
Honestly, the $0.90 is the least of it. What actually makes bundling worth doing is everything downstream of one order instead of three:
- One parcel, not three. One box, one label, one lot of packaging. On a low-priced item, the packaging and postage per order is often a larger cost than Etsy’s entire fee.
- One trip, one pack, one message thread. The per-order handling time doesn’t triple when the order triples in size, and your time is the binding constraint on the business.
- A higher order value. Which improves your fee percentage, since the fixed charges spread across more revenue.
That last point is the reason bundling works so well on exactly the products that need it most — cheap items, where the fixed fees hurt worst.
How to price a bundle
The instinct is to take a round percentage off the singles. Don’t start there — start from what the bundle costs you, because your costs genuinely fall.
- Add the materials for all three items.
- Add the labor — but the real figure for making three in a batch, which is usually well under three times one. That saving is yours to spend on the discount.
- Add one lot of packaging and one label, not three.
- Add the margin you want, and divide by one minus your fee rate, exactly as in the pricing guide.
Do it that way and you often find you can offer a discount that looks generous to the buyer while earning more per order than selling the items separately. Start from “15% off” instead and you are guessing at whether that is true.
Two things bundles won’t fix
A bundle of a product nobody wants is a bigger thing nobody wants — bundling raises order value, it doesn’t create demand. And a bundle whose components each lose money loses money faster, since you are now shipping three losses in one box. Check the per-unit numbers before you group them.
MakerMargin computes profit per product from the order file Etsy already exports, so you can see which items are worth bundling and what the bundle actually earned. For one item, the free fee calculator will do it now.
The multiple-quantity listing fee behaviour is quoted from Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy: “If you list multiple quantities of the same item, the initial listing fee will be $0.20, and the listing will be automatically renewed at $0.20 after each of the items sells.” Read 14 September 2026. All fee figures are computed by the same fee engine MakerMargin bills against.
Do this for every order at once

Short answers
Do bundles reduce Etsy fees?
Yes, because two of Etsy's charges are fixed rather than percentage-based: $0.20 per listing renewal and $0.25 per transaction. Three separate $16 sales pay those three times; one $48 bundle sold as a single listing pays them once. On that example the bundle costs about $0.90 less in fees, before counting the bigger saving on packaging and postage.
Does a multi-quantity Etsy order still charge multiple listing fees?
Yes. Etsy states that if you list multiple quantities of the same item, the initial listing fee is $0.20 and the listing automatically renews at $0.20 after each of the items sells. So an order for three units carries three renewals — which is why a genuine bundle listing is cheaper than selling three units of one listing.
What should I charge for a bundle?
Work from the margin you want on the bundle, not from a discount off the singles. Bundles save you real money on fees, packaging and one trip to the post office, so a modest discount can leave you earning more per order than selling the items separately — but only if you price from costs rather than from a round percentage off.
How much does Etsy take per sale?
